With the festive season in full swing, it’s time to celebrate with your closest family and friends. There is nothing quite like the hustle and bustle of a home at Christmas, and celebrating with those you love the most. Perhaps you’re opting to host a dinner party before the big day, or you’re being super brave and have volunteered to cook Christmas dinner for your family. Whichever the situation, the fact is that you’ll be wanting your home to look as Christmassy as possible. Here are a few awesome do-it-yourself tips and tricks on how to make your home look ultra-festive.

Painted Wine Bottle Centerpiece

If you’re stuck deciding on a centerpiece for your dinner table at Christmas, take your empty wine bottles and spray paint in your chosen festive colours and decorate. Use as much tinsel, glitter and sequins as you wish! If you prefer to keep your centerpiece on the minimalistic side, use white paint on the bottles and spell out the words ‘Joy’ or ‘Noel’ using red cut-out letters or paint. Wine bottles can also be used to make lots of festive characters – Santa, reindeer, and snowmen are just a few.

Cranberry Centerpiece

The cranberry centerpiece idea is very artistic, and the result is simply stunning. All you need is a glass bowl, Epsom salt, cranberries and pine leaves, which, altogether, creates a stunning snow-globe effect. On the other hand, if you’re a big fan of candles at Christmastime, filling the glass bowls with water and using floating candles in festive colors creates a beautiful effect. Don’t forget the cranberries and pine leaves!

Candy Cane Namecard/Napkin Holders

A cute festive idea for your dinner table, and who doesn’t enjoy a peppermint treat after a delicious meal? Simply tie two candy canes together with red or green ribbon so that the hooked ends are lying on the table, and pop the name card in between. Another great idea is to tie a tag around the candy cane with the name card attached, and place it on top of the napkin. When it comes to using candy canes as a festive dinner table decoration, it’s all about creativity.

Cinnamon Stick Centerpiece

There are endless things you can do with cinnamon sticks within the home to create a festive ambiance. Combine them with the candy canes and pine leaves as napkin holders, or stick them to the edge of a candle, one by one. This works amazingly as a table centerpiece, especially if it’s in the center of a Christmas wreath. You can be as creative as you wish and choose to wrap red or green ribbon around the cinnamon stick candle, or you can keep it simple and leave it be. The choice is completely yours.

Festive Chair Coverings

Chair coverings are a great way to make your dinner table more formal for the festive season and are a fantastic option if you plan to have lots of people over for dinner. Chair covers can be purchased all over but can be found most easily online. They come in a range of styles and colors to suit your preferences. Whether you go for a chair cover or not, an awesome way to make your dinner table more Christmassy is to wrap the thick red ribbon around the backs of the chairs, tying a bow at the back. It’s a simple trick, but it does make all the difference.

Now that you have a few ideas in mind, perhaps decorating your dinner table for Christmas dinner doesn’t seem so difficult, after all. All it takes is just a little bit of patience, creativity, and of course, a generous sprinkle of Christmas spirit.
